WONDERBOOM BOWLS CLUB STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR THE NEXT 2 TO 3 YEARS

During a one-day strategic planning session on 30 September 2010, the Management Committee identified four Strategic Priorities:

1. RECRUITMENT OF NEW MEMBERS

Aim To increase the membership of Wonderboom Bowling Club to 180 by the end 2013 by:

๏‚ท actively recruit new members

๏‚ท retain existing members.

๏‚ท concentrate specifically on the recruitment of younger people and

๏‚ท ensure that at least 50% of the new members who are recruited, are younger than 50 years old.

Assumptions:

๏‚ท Membership shows a definite downward trend that must be stopped. It has dropped from around 190 to the current 156 in the last 4 years.

๏‚ท In line with Rolbal SA’s policy that in the interests of the development of the sport of bowling (and therefore also Wonderboom Bowling Club) is that more younger people play the game

๏‚ท The existing two limits can comfortably accommodate up to 200 players

2. FINANCIAL SURVIVAL

Aim To have a well thought out plan ready for the continued existence of the club for a scenario where the existing support from the municipality be reduced or discontinued by:

๏‚ท Regular contact/liaison with important decision makers at the municipality.

๏‚ท Draw up a long-term financial plan.

๏‚ท Investigate alternative sources of income.

๏‚ท Investigate Lotto funds as a possible source of financing.

Assumptions:

๏‚ท This will have a significant impact on the club’s finances and survival.

๏‚ท Service contract with the municipality for the maintenance of the limits have so far been on a 20-year basis. Not yet renewed for next term not.

๏‚ท Given the changing priorities of Municipalities nationwide not simply assume that the current support is unlimited will not continue.

3. SOCIAL ORIENTATION

Aim To meet members’ need for additional “off the court” social togetherness to comply with:

๏‚ท organize additional social activities

Assumptions:

๏‚ท Social interaction on the track is sufficient

๏‚ท Social orientation is one of Wonderboom Bowling Club’s key success factors

4. COACHING

Aim To encourage more players to play competitively and the increase skill of players by:

๏‚ท Talent identification

๏‚ท Regular coaching clinics specifically for identified players to offer.

๏‚ท Follow up coaching for beginner players

๏‚ท Offer coaching to players who request it

Assumptions:

๏‚ท Competitive orientation is one of Wonderboom Bowling Club’s keys success factors

๏‚ท Coaching clinics are essential to motivate and equip members to to start playing more competitively

๏‚ท Wonderboom Bowling Club has a proud tradition as a club that in excels in competitions and wants to continue doing so.
